5 Parts of a Peace (of mind) Party

Greetings to my #WellnessWOWers, Super Wonder Women and all who do it all working to have it all, sometimes at the cost of your time, tranquility and peace of mind. Where do you find your relief when the tasks before you seem daunting and your to-do list is longer than Route 66? Sometimes you must throw caution to the wind and tear off the label of “the responsible one” and party. Living in New Orleans, you can party as much or as little as you want anytime. Like the song says, “Do what ya wanna”. I LOVE this time of the year! It’s carnival time! This is a time where the city comes alive in a way like no other. The energy is palpable; it’s hard not to get caught up in it. It’s a great stress reliever because you feel FREE to pull back the curtain and unleash your child within. But if you can’t get to New Orleans to party, you can party anywhere and anytime to release stress. It’s what I call a “Peace Party”. Here are the 5 parts you’ll need:

1. Play
When you are an adult, you limit your ideas of how to play. Expand without fear of embarrassment or other people’s opinions and get down and dirty with it. Go to a playground and actually PLAY. Swing on the swing set, throw your head back and laugh! Or put on your favorite song and dance. Don’t wait for a dance partner. You are your best dance partner, that way you don’t have to worry about anyone stepping on your toes. Just be FREE without the pretense of what you “should” do or what you can do.

2. Light
Natural light always lifts the soul and spirit. During cold winter months, this is especially important to help combat seasonal affective disorder (SAD). It’s the feeling of the “winter blues”, depression, low energy and difficulty concentrating that can be treated with light therapy. When it isn’t bitterly cold, take a brisk walk outside or have your favorite warm beverage on the porch or courtyard just to bask in the rays of the sun. At night, you can light a nice scented candle and play some soft soothing music.

3. Tea
Certain types of teas can calm your mind and refresh your soul. The specific herbs used to accomplish this are called adaptogens. Of course my personal favorite is Release Recharge Tea. So, get a nice cup of Release Recharge tea, sit in the sunshine and soothe your mind.

4. Water
Water is essential to life. When you drink it, take a hot bath, listen to it or walk by it or in it, it helps calm your mind. Drinking an adequate amount of water for your weight and activity level is vital to your “Peace Party” and stress release. Even a small amount of dehydration can contribute to the ‘brain fog’ you experience when stressed out. Have a tall glass of water and DJ your “Peace Party” with the melodic sounds of ocean waves or a bubbling brook.

5. Green

A “Peace Party” wouldn’t be complete without food. The best dish for the occasion is one with fresh greens. Whether you want to use spinach, romaine lettuce, kale or throw some broccoli in the mix, fresh greens contain vitamins and nutrients that are the culinary cure for your stress and burnout.
Having the color green in your space gives a feeling of balance and harmony. So, put on that green dress, make a delectable dish and enjoy YOUR "Peace Party"!
