Wellness Wisdom: From a "New Year Resolution to a NEW YOU Revolution"

"New Year Resolution to New You Revolution"  Kysha Brown-Robinson

The first month of the year is almost over. The best laid plans and intentions to lose weight, quit smoking, exercise etc. have fizzled out; your new year's resolutions. How do you go from making a new year resolution, to a NEW YOU REVOLUTION?

According to Oxford's Dictionary, the definition of resolution is a firm decision to do or not to do something. This is a great first step because everything starts in the mind. The energy of thought usually follows action. I have heard Bob Proctor say, "Energy flows where energy goes." If you can think it, you can believe it and you can achieve it.

But what do you do when there is a barrier between the belief and the achievement? A gap between  your firm  decision and action?

According to Webster's dictionary, the definition of revolution is:

Revolution - (a) a sudden, radical, or complete change
                      (b) a fundamental change in the way of thinking about or visualizing                               something :  a change of paradigm

A sudden radical and complete change; a change or shift of the paradigm is what is necessary for lasting life changes and modifications. The beauty is, what positive changes you make create a ripple affect. You affect positive change with everyone you come in contact with. It is not what you say or "preach", but what you do. As I always say, "I can show you better than I can tell you."
"Be the change you wish to see in the world." Mahatma Gandhi

Steps that you can take to actualize your NEW YOU REVOLUTION:

1. RELEASE

  (a) to set free from restraint, confinement, or servitude <release pent-up emotions>; also : to let   go : dismiss

  (b) to relieve from something that confines, burdens, or oppresses.

The above is the definition of release as stated in Webster's dictionary. What burdens or oppresses you leaving you feeling incapable of living a full and abundant life? Is it a relationship that is past its expiration date? The spirit of procrastination?

Poor eating habits? Excess weight? Mind you, excess weight is not about the physical pounds, but often is a reflection of other weights that you carry. What roadblocks are present that obstruct you from moving full steam ahead on your path to manifesting your vision?

2. RECHARGE

  (a) to regain energy, strength or spirit

  (b) to inspire or invigorate afresh : renew

To regain your energy or strength requires you to go to the place within and without that inspires and rejuvenates you. Whether it is meditation, prayer, a mindful walk, deep breathing or fulfilling relationships. Quality relationships are based on respect and have the ability to push you to birth your full potential. As I have heard Lisa Nichols say, "You want to add people to your circle that are 10 steps ahead of you." You are reaching forward as they are reaching back.

Certain foods and herbs can help recharge your physical body. Ginger for example is known to increase circulation; therefore a good warming nutrient especially in the winter. Traditional medicine has used ginger for centuries to reduce inflammation. And there is some evidence that ginger may help reduce pain from osteoarthritis, as well as pain during a menstrual cyle. A study involving 74 volunteers carried out at the University of Georgia found that daily ginger supplementation reduced exercise-induced muscle pain by 25%.

3. RESILIENCE

   (a) the ability to become strong, healthy, or successful again after misfortune

   (b) an ability to recover from or adjust easily to misfortune or change

Many times people stop before they get a good start. Self sabotage creeps in and some people feel, "Well I've already gotten off track, I may as well stay off track." This is when resilience is necessary. No matter how many times you fall down, get back up. As I have often said, "As long as there is still breath in my body, there is still an opportunity for change." An opportunity to recover and become strong , healthy and successdul again.  What facilitates embracing resilience is grace. Give yourself grace on this journey knowing that you are not alone. Grace to continue on the journey "in spite of". Grace in knowing that you have enough and you are enough.

There are many just like you who have been through similar struggles and are on the other side of them. Note the key word is through struggles not parked in them.
