It's that time of year, the holiday season has officially begun. I even heard a Christmas song on the radio today! Though we are looking forward to getting together with family and friends sharing a scrumptious meal, traveling, longer to-do-lists and strained relationships can drastically increase stress levels.

Sweet potatoes contain nutrients that can help relieve stress as well as other health benefits.

The key is how they are prepared. Yes, candied yams are delicious, but the added brown sugar and white sugar and wreak havoc on your immune system, blood sugars and health goals.

 Sweet Potato Hummus

  • 1 medium sweet potato (raw & partially peeled)

  • 2 Tbsp. - ¼ cup Tahini (to taste)

  • 2-5 drops liquid smoke

  • 2 cloves of garlic

  • juice of lemon

  • 1 T water

  • ½  tsp cayenne pepper

  • 1 tsp smoked paprika

  • ½  tsp cumin

  • 2 Tbsp fresh thyme

  • A little honey

  • Bragg's Liquid Aminos to taste

  • Toss everything into a food processor or quality blender

  • Mix until smooth

  • Note: If using Vitamix, toss the whole lemon in; otherwise, only use the juice of the lemon.  

  • Makes 1 ½ cups

May adjust seasoning to taste
