3 Tips for a Stress-FREE Staycation

Michelle Clay harmony mindset New Orleans peace recharge relax staycation stress

Greetings my sister Super Wonder Women and those who are ready to live a #FREELIFE of health, happiness and harmony. It’s Dr. Michelle here helping you to release stress simply and naturally while being healthier and happier.

I’ve heard of people taking “stay-cations”, you know, a vacation in your home city or some place nearby. I’ve never done it before. Like most, I’m in the daily grind of life when I’m in my home city, running errands, working, cleaning house and all of the other things on my long and never-ending to-do list. But in an effort to level-up my

stress FREELIFE, I was interested. Sometimes, you may not have the time or resources to plan a “get-away”, but you can get away from it all right in your own zip code.

I recently had an opportunity to take one at the beautiful NOPSI hotel in New Orleans.

I will share 3 tips for your stress-FREE staycation.

1. Do Not Disturb

The “Do Not Disturb” sign works well not only for your hotel door, but also on your phone and calendar. If you really want to get into relax and release mode of your staycation, don’t schedule any personal or professional commitments nor be distracted or disturbed by other’s personal emergencies. This is the time for you to not only charge your phone, but charge yourself.

2. Quarantine

Quarantine yourself from your house. Act as if it is being cleansed from the bubonic plague and you CANNOT go there until it is safe! Anything you have forgotten, act as if you are in another time zone and purchase it. By stopping by at home, you may be triggered by some of the same stressors and responsibilities that sent you on a staycation. You may be tempted to do laundry, clean the house, go through mail etc. RESIST, RESIST, RESIST! I’m sharing this with you because I made that mistake. I said, “Oh, I will just stop at home for a minute to pick up ____.” The next thing I know, I was washing dishes and had the broom in my hand to clean the floors. It took everything in me to stop, drop the broom and roll out of the door. I used my Super Wonder Woman superpower of tunnel vision so I would not see the mess and could leave without the guilt. So, quarantine yourself from your house, your peace of mind will thank you.

3. Peace Be Still

Some people choose to use a staycation to explore their city as a toursit. That can be a lot of fun. It depends on what your needs are. If you really need the time to relax, release and recharge, then be still. In your quiet time without the phone, the kids, the mate, the laundry, let your mind rest and reset. There is something about that magical moment when the internal chatter silences and you can just be. You exhale all of your tensions, all of your worries and all of your stressors and the smile on your face mirrors the smile in your soul. You get some of the best and most restful sleep you’ve had in a long time, allowing your mind to dream your now and your future.

After this experience, I’m committing to a staycation every 6 months. I challenge you to commit to something that will relax and recharge you. I’m giving you permission because I know that not only do you need it, but you deserve it!
